Torchwood Series 5 was weird as hell.
Previous: 10. The Doctor Dances
During summer 2017 my girl and I took a trip to Cardiff to see the Doctor Who Experience before it closed. She got very excited about some of the location work in this episode.
“Cardiff Central!”
“I remember walking under that bridge!”
“We never went in the millennium centre! Ha! millennium centre, millennium falcon!”
Tell me the story in your own words…
“What happened was, it started when Mickey was just walking across Wales. He was like, ‘Hiya mate.'”.
“He went in to the TARDIS, saw Rose, but Jack was like, ‘Who are you?’. He was just like, ‘Move out of my way!’, and then he saw Rose and they were just like hugging each other, and having a really good fun time, and they went out, had a nice dinner.”
“The Doctor saw this newspaper that a man was holding, he snatched it off the man, read it, showed them the front cover, then they went to find the Slitheen, cos the Slitheen was the new mayor.”
“They just found the Slitheen and captured her.”
[Whilst Mayor Margaret opens her head:]
“I’m watching it this time!”
[pause]
“I’ve seen worse.”
[Whilst looking at Rose]
“OOOOOOOOH! Nice skirt! I think they look really good on other people, but not on me.”
“There was this really funny bit where she tried to teleport, but the Doctor got her, and she was like [makes ‘pathetic’ noises] she went.. zzzp, she’s back, and the Doctor was like, ‘I can do this all day.’, and they captured her, and what the Slitheen wanted to do was, she wanted a last dinner, at her favourite place.”
“That looks like the Bem Brasil we found!”
“But it was actually a lie, she just wanted to get away with the Doctor, and actually, what ended up happening was, this thing happened and from many many years ago, with the rift and all that jazz, I keep remembering bits from it with the Gelth…”
“It’s not going to happen again is it? It’s not going to be the Gelth?”
“…and Gwyneth and everything like that, and things, that they remember from later episodes. I bet the actors of them were happy to be mentioned again.”
“They’d done that, but they’d parked the TARDIS on the rift,”
“I’ve been in that bit where they just walked.”
“…but the Slitheen did something to the rift and then it went, and the heart of the TARDIS opened up and when the Slitheen saw it she went poof! And then she turned into a little egg, and then the heart of the TARDIS closed, and they’re going to take her back to a planet, and they’re going to give her to another family and just say, ‘Take care of her! Bring her up properly!’ But Rose was questioning whether she was, gonna turn out worse or the same, or better, but the Doctor said, ‘That’s her choice, we’re giving her a second chance’, then the music started.
Her score: 8 or 9 out of ten,. It just wasn’t the best one.

“Yes. Heck yeah. They were still together, whilst he was still going out with some other girl.”
